Living in a park home can feel much safer than living in a house or bungalow, when you are tucked away in a community that often looks out for each other. Although not all parks are fully gated, the risk of receiving unwanted visitors on-site is extremely rare, but it doesn’t hurt to ensure you have good security measures in place to protect you and your home and give you peace of mind while you sleep soundly in your bed. Here we have made some recommendations for things you can do to strengthen the security in and around your beloved abode. Fit a burglar alarmBasic alarms are reasonably priced, easy to install and will alert others to the presence of an intruder. Fitting an alarm can give you peace of mind if you are away from home for any length of time. Motion-Activated Outdoor LightingIntruders do not like to ‘work’ in well-lit areas, as the chances of being caught are much higher. Motion-activated outdoor security lighting can detect even the slightest of movements and illuminate shadowed areas, which can make ideal entry points for light-fingered opportunists. Secure Your WindowsKey operated locks are recommended for windows that open out, rather than up, on windows accessible at ground level. Remember, window locks are only effective if used, so check that you have locked them before you leave home or go to bed. Push button window locks are also a good choice and window opening restrictors allow you to ventilate your home, while ensuring windows can’t be opened fully from outside. Front Door ReinforcementMulti-point locking systems have three locking points, and the system sits inside the door. It is opened and closed using a handle and key and is one of the most secure types of front door lock. Deadbolt locks are opened using a key or thumb turn and offer great security as they cannot be forced open with a knife blade or credit card. These locks are most suited to a wooden door, steel door or fibreglass door. Installing a deadbolt lock on a hollow core door can compromise the security of the lock.  If your door only has one lock, a night latch or sturdy door chain can be used to improve security. It is recommended that these are used in conjunction with one of the aforementioned locks, as using these alone will not be enough to prevent an intruder breaking down the door. |
